Behindatthebar

Trainer: Todd Pletcher
Jockey: David Flores
Owner: Padua Stable, Michael Shustek & Don Stanley
Breeder: Dr. Frank Justice & Meadow Oaks Farm, LLC

Behindatthebar is a bit of a late bloomer on the Triple Crown trail. He didn't make his debut until Jan. 12, when he was second in a maiden race at Santa Anita. After a win next out, Todd Pletcher shipped him to northern California for the El Camino Real Derby (gr. III), where he was a disappointing fifth in his only start on a dirt track to date. An allowance race win set him up for the Lexington Stakes (gr. II), where a win had his connections thinking Kentucky Derby (gr. I). After giving it some thought, they ultimately passed, much to the delight of the owner/trainer of Denis of Cork, who was sitting on the graded earnings bubble at the time. Behindatthebar is training at Pletcher's Belmont barn in preparation for the Preakness. Read more here.

Belmont Profile: Behindatthebar

Behindatthebar comes into the Belmont Stakes (gr. I) a fresh horse, having scratched from the May 17 Preakness Stakes (gr. I) due to a bruised left front foot.

First Preakness Contender Hits Pimlico

Bear Stables' Kentucky Bear was the first Preakness Stakes (gr. I) contender to arrive at Pimlico, while others are scheduled to ship in next week.

Seven Confirmed for Preakness

With the May 17 Preakness Stakes (gr. I) 11 days away, the field set to test Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) winner Big Brown continues to change as the connections of some of the top 3-year-olds weigh a start in the middle jewel of racing's Triple Crown at Pimlico Race Course.

The Morning After: Big Brown Scare Off

Early indications are that none of the horses that finished behind Big Brown in his impressive 4 3/4-length victory in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) will move on to the May 17 Preakness Stakes (gr. I).

Behindatthebar Skips; Denis of Cork In

The Sanan family's Padua Stables' Behindatthebar will not enter the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) and instead will point for the May 17 Preakness Stakes (gr. I). The decision opens the door for Mr. and Mrs. William Warren's Denis of Cork who had been 21st on the graded earnings list.

Behindatthebar in Front in Lexington

Two weeks ago, Todd Pletcher was sitting on the outside of the Derby picture looking in. But when Padua Stables and partners' Behindatthebar followed the hard-knocking efforts of Monba and Cowboy Cal in the April 12 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (gr. I) with an impressive performance of his own in the $325,000 Coolmore Lexington Stakes (gr. II) April 19, the venerable trainer could count not one, but three potential contenders for the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I).
