Georgie Boy passed his first two-turn test in the San Felipe (gr. II) with flying colors and a 3/4 length victory. Though on the surface Georgie Boy is more obscurely bred than some on the Derby trail (by Tribal Rule out of a Peterhof mare), he is inbred 4x4 to 1964 Derby winner Northern Dancer and also has the greats Secretariat and Ribot on his male side. After he won the Del Mar Futurity (gr. I) last September, he went to the sidelines until returning Feb. 10, chalking up his second graded stakes win in the San Vicente (gr. II).

Georgie Boy, winner of the grade II San Vicente and San Felipe Stakes, will miss the Santa Anita Derby (gr. I) and Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) due to a pulled back muscle.
Looking for a new favorite for the Derby after the disappointing efforts by 3-year-old stars War Pass and Z Fortune? Why not Georgie Boy? A grade I winner at 2, the favored California-bred son of Tribal Rule used a late burst to pass Gayego in deep stretch and win the $200,000 San Felipe (gr. II) in his first try around two turns March 15 at Santa Anita.
The most accomplished entrants in the $200,000 San Felipe Stakes (gr. II) March 15 have done all their work sprinting. So the question is which of them is ready to stretch out in Southern California's last major prep race before the April 5 Santa Anita Derby (gr. I).
Zayat Stables' Massive Drama, third in two graded stakes in California this year, will detour off the traditional Triple Crown trail to take on a tough group of older Southern Hemisphere-breds in the $2-million UAE Derby (UAE-II) on the March 29 Dubai World Cup (UAE-I) program.
There's just no escaping it. You can question his pedigree and his running style all you want, but War Pass is simply in a class by himself right now, and until someone figures out how to beat him or his pedigree catches up to him, he has to be the top dog.
The Kentucky Derby trail received the spark it had been looking for when Pyro put on a spectacular exhibition in the Risen Star Stakes (gr. III). There is no doubt Pyro is a top-class horse with a powerful closing kick, but before we get too euphoric, let's not forget that this has happened many times at Fair Grounds.
Making his first start in more than five months, grade I winner Georgie Boy kicked off his 3-year-old campaign in fine style with a big closing rush to win the $147,000 San Vicente Stakes (gr. II).
Grade I winners Into Mischief and Georgie Boy are set to clash in the San Vicente Stakes (gr. II) at Santa Anita Feb. 10.
