Majestic Warrior got plenty of hype after impressively winning both a maiden race and the Hopeful (gr. I) in the span of a month. The tone became more muted after running poorly in the Champagne (gr. I) in early October. Train Bill Mott put the Kinsman homebred on the shelf after that race, and he didn't resurface until the March 8 Louisiana Derby (gr. II). That comeback race didn't go as well as his connections hoped when he drew the far outside post and then got caught wide on both turns. The Louisiana Derby was Majestic Warrior's first race around two turns, so the question about his distance abilities still exist, and after finishing sixth, with no real late rally, in the Florida Derby (gr. I), his future plans are up in the air.

IEAH Stables and Paul Pompa Jr.'s highly-touted Big Brown proved that all the hype was justified, as he led from start to finish in the $1-million Florida Derby, crushing 11 rivals to win by five lengths March 29 at Gulfstream Park while making just his third career start.
A full field of 12 was drawn for the March 29 Florida Derby (gr. I), which on paper has turned out to be the most intriguing prep race for the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) this year.
The doubters said that Pyro's last-to-first victory in the Risen Star (gr. III) was not as good as it looked. There won't be much for the skeptics to say after the Pulpit colt's latest performance, a commanding three-length score in the $600,000 Louisiana Derby (gr. II) March 8 at Fair Grounds, a victory that cemented the Steve Asmussen trainee as one of the top two 3-year-olds in the country.
With less than two months until the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I), it is time that some of the highly-touted 3-year-olds begin to answer our questions. Many of those answers will be provided March 8 at Fair Grounds, when nine top challengers will do battle in the $600,000 Louisiana Derby (gr. II).
There's just no escaping it. You can question his pedigree and his running style all you want, but War Pass is simply in a class by himself right now, and until someone figures out how to beat him or his pedigree catches up to him, he has to be the top dog.
